Tybee Spring Break

Spring Break on Tybee Island

It’s that time of the year again!  You and your friends are ready to block out the memories of last semester and book a trip to some overplayed spring break destination.  But why not try something different this year, something less commercial, not so plastic? Instead of long nights beating the hell out of your liver, opt for some actual living out here on Tybee Island.

There’s plenty to do in a week’s time. Plan on visiting uninhabited Little Tybee Island to explore pristine beaches, subtropical forests, and maybe do a little camping too. The Island is only accessible by boat, so renting a kayak is really the best option. Tybee Island Jet Ski & Watersports will provide you with instructions, paddles, seats, and life vests with all kayak rentals and kayak tours. They use Ocean Kayaks ( the ones you sit on top of) and you can take your dog along too. They go beyond just pet friendly, they have life vests of all sizes to fit your furry friends, cold bottled water, and a treats. Dogs love the beach on Little Tybee but be aware that there is a ton of wildlife out there, some endangered. Watch your four legged friends so they don’t accidently cause any harm.

Ever seen those people standing on what looks like a giant surf boards paddling around? Join the ranks of Stand Up Paddle Boarders and get some lessons at North Island Surf & Kayak. Stand up paddle boards (SUP) offer a fun, relaxing way to play on the water. With a minimum of gear, you can paddle ocean surf. Paddle boarding delivers a full-body workout and has become a popular cross-training activity. And since you stand at your full height, you can enjoy unique views of everything from sea creatures to what’s on the horizon.

Tybee is a biking paradise — temperate weather and gorgeous sites. Start with a ride down Butler Avenue, hop on Tybrisa St., stop at the Rock House for a cold one, and then cruise on down to the beach! Rent a bike with Fat Tire or Tim’s Beach Gear and get ready to explore! Our nature trails can prove to be an interesting diversion. Or you could join Captain Derek for an unbelievable deep sea fishing experience. He provides fishing excursions at various times of the day so you can choose what best fits your schedule. Bring your friends and celebrate life out on the open water, Captain Derek will bring the gear and the knowledge to ensure you have an unforgettable time. Not a fan of fishing? No problem! He also hosts dolphin tours which are truly an amazing way to get up close to these super friendly marine mammals.

So forget about your mid-terms and winter’s lingering chill, Tybee can be your dream come true. Who needs an expensive, all-inclusive trips, or week-long parties that you know you won’t really remember anyways?  This little beach town is the perfect mental break from the challenges of the semester and an opportunity for adventure that will not soon be forgotten….
