School’s out for the summer, and the kiddos are excited for some well-deserved fun in the sun after a demanding academic year. Now is the time not only for family vacations, but also stellar summer camps that will keep kids active and engaged while they take a break from their studies. Tybee Island is a summer paradise complete with pristine beaches, water sports adventures and tons to do. Our breathtaking barrier isle also boasts several sensational summer camps that little ones will absolutely love. With several camps starting in the coming days and weeks, now is the prime time to register your child for some local summer fun. East Coast Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is one of the most popular water sports to emerge in recent years, taking the world by storm as a fun, peaceful way to experience the ocean. To help youth become acquainted with this ancient Hawaiian sport, East Coast Paddleboarding offers an awesome summer camp led by internationally certified instructors. Participants will learn about water safety, balance, paddling technique, respect for the ocean and more. Instructors will engage kids in flatwater paddling and small waves, supplying all the necessary equipment. Taking place at Back River and Tybee Beach, camps are being held June 10–14, June 17–21, and July 29–Aug. 2 from 8:30–11:30 a.m. The camps are open to children ages 7–16 who know how to swim. Tybee YMCA

The YMCA has been all but synonymous with summer fun for the many years since its founding. Our local branch is offering five different camps this summer, each offering a unique experience to engage young people in adventurous programming that benefits the body and stimulates the mind. The day camps span between June and July and include LIT (Leaders in Training) camp for teens, Stand-Up Paddle Board Camp, Surf Camp, Traditional Day Camp and Watermans Camp. Tybee Island Marine Science Center 

For an educationally enriching summer camp experience that will engage kids in hands-on learning about the coastal environment, register your child for the Tybee Island Marine Science Center’s Sea Camp. For one week, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., campers will deep dive into marine life with classroom instruction, creative activities and field trips to the beach and marshes. They’ll even get to observe dolphins on a thrilling boat excursion. Slots are filling up fast, so register as soon as possible if your child is interested in participating. 

Tybee Surf Lessons

Tybee Surf Lessons popular Uke N Surf camp is well underway. For one week, Monday through Friday, from 8–11 a.m., children ages 6–14 can learn the fundamentals not only of surfing, but also of ukulele playing. It’s a unique camp that combines water sports principles with musical education for an unforgettable summer experience. Remaining dates include June 10–14, June 24–28, July 8–12 and July 22–26.
