Labor Day weekend is right around the corner, which means the fall holiday season is well on its way – before you know it, you’ll be stocking up on sweets and nursing a turkey-induced stomach ache. Each year, we observe Labor Day in honor of the hard working people of this great nation. And if you missed out on a worthy Labor Day celebration last time around, seize the opportunity this year. Tybee Island is a prime locale for a quick weekend getaway year-round, but the island’s selection of holiday deals and events makes Labor Day 2016 a compelling time to come. Although you probably don’t need any convincing, here are 4 simple, yet solid reasons to pass on the same-old family BBQ and venture out to Tybee for your Labor Day weekend.

Great Rates

Island hotels, inns and rental properties are offering affordable promotional rates to bring in the fall season. DeSoto Beach Hotel & Vacation Properties and Hotel Tybee are just a few of the island lodging options that are boasting special discounts and packages through October. Accommodations on Tybee offer opulence, seclusion and impeccable service amid the backdrop of the island’s natural beauty. And you can enjoy it all this weekend at reduced rates.

Great Weather

On Tybee, if you weren’t aware of the calendar date, you’d have no idea that summer was coming to an end any time soon. The island weather continues to be comfortably warm well into mid-fall, which means there’s no wind chill to deter you from soaking up the sun and splashing around in the ocean water. The weather forecast for the holiday weekend looks especially promising: lots of sun with very little chance of rain.

Great Food

What you eat on a vacation is arguably just as important as where you stay. A common mistake people make while traveling is opting to dine at familiar franchised restaurants that serve the same soulless, cookie-cutter plates to patrons across the globe. Why dine just like millions of others when you can have a unique feast at a local, independent restaurant that’s made with love? Tybee’s inimitable array of restaurants offers guests a one-of-a-kind dining experience that’s sure to leave a lasting impression on the palate. Enjoy freshly-harvested seafood at AJ’s Dockside or Coco’s Sunset Grille among others; savor a hand-tossed pie with an exciting assortment of toppings at Lighthouse Pizza; treat yourself to the best gelato outside of Italy at Seaside Sweets Desserts. No matter what whets your appetite on the island, you’re sure to find a satiating dish that’s made special for you Labor Day weekend and the rest of the year.

Great Fun

Of course, what’s Labor Day weekend without an all-out party? Tybee certainly is no stranger to the ultimate beach bash. On September 3, the island is hosting its much-loved Labor Day Weekend Party on the Pier. The high-energy rock band Big Engine takes the pavilion stage at 7:30 pm, and you don’t want to miss it. Big Engine pretty much guarantees an action-packed, electrifying performance that’s sure to keep the crowd going well into the night. Then on Sunday, September 4 is Tybee’s annual Labor Day Beach Bash featuring the Swingin Medallions and a live FIREWORKS show at dark.

Although the Parties on the Pier kick off at night, there’s no shortage of fun to be had during the day. Just a short drive from Tybee, Downtown Savannah is hosting two festivals this Labor Day weekend that are sure to keep you busy. The Savannah Bacon Fest, which is just as awesome as it sounds, takes place on historic River Street September 2 & 3. And the picturesque Savannah International Trade & Convention Center is hosting the Savannah Craft Brew Fest, which is also just as awesome as it sounds, on the 3rd from 1 to 5 pm. With all the festivities, you’re definitely in for a great Labor Day weekend out on Tybee.
