Shark Week 2023 at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center
There’s something lurking in the water, and the Tybee Island Marine Science Center is all over it. Shark Week is making a splash on the island once again. Between now and July 18, TIMSC will present several events during Shark Week, sharing compelling information about these fierce sea creatures. Shark Week events are included in paid admission or membership.
The theme for this year’s Shark Week is “Replace Fear with Facts.” The week’s events represent an exciting opportunity to demystify sharks and discover the truth about these apex predators. While sharks are known for their lethal nature, there’s a lot more to them than their propensity to kill. During Shark Week, the public will learn all sorts of interesting facts about these aquatic animals including how to identify shark teeth and how scientists research and track sharks. Attendees will also be able to meet real sharks too.
A highlight of the week is Shark Jaw, which will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12. At Shark Jaw, TIMSC invites attendees to dive in and discover more about sharks. Participants will be able to explore the center’s coastal galleries after hours while learning more about this often misunderstood and misrepresented species during a detailed presentation. Shark Jaw will conclude with an exclusive opportunity to meet the center’s current shark residents in the new Sharks and Rays exhibit. Registration is required and will be open through 5 p.m. on July 12.
