Local Stars Shine at Tybee’s Got Talent

Tybee Island is teeming with talent, from gifted singer-songwriters and skilled dancers to impactful poets, clever magicians and other amazing acts. And an opportunity to experience the breadth of talent that the island boasts is fast approaching. Taking place at the historic Tybee Post Theater, Tybee’s Got Talent 2025 is set for Sunday, Aug. 24 from 7–9 p.m.

Two people stand on stage holding microphones; one wears a patterned vest and a hat labeled "#bestrong," while the other holds papers. A third person is in the background, adjusting equipment.

A brilliant showcase of local artistry, Tybee’s Got Talent finds its origin some seven or so years ago when it was first launched in celebration of the reopening of the Tybee Post Theater.

“The Post had the big grand opening on Saturday with a big reception, and then on Sunday night, we opened the theater, the first time on the stage, with Tybee’s Got Talent,” said Renee DeRossett, co-host of Tybee’s Got Talent, alongside Kim Trammell.

A woman in a black dress leans over and plays a piano while a man in a hat stands behind her, both appearing focused on the music.

The showcase was ideated as a fun way to spotlight local talent while also raising funds for Tybee’s creative community, originally benefiting The Post and now benefitting Tybee Arts Association. After a pandemic hiatus, Tybee’s Got Talent returned to The Post in 2024 and it’s expected to be bigger and better than ever in 2025.

“We have lots of talent on Tybee,” said DeRossett. “We’ve got all kinds of things. We’ve got the Tybee dance troupe, we’ve got the famous Tybee Beach Brigade, which is a group of 40 women who are in every parade. They usually open the show, and they’ve been with us every year since we started. . . We’ve got the Tybee Tap Troupe, which is a great tap-dancing group here on the island made up of Tybee women.”

The lineup also includes a father-daughter duo: dad provides the musical accompaniment to his daughter’s vocal talent. There are also other wonderful vocalists, like Kristen Osbourne, and outstanding local bands in addition to captivating novelists, spoken word poets and more.

“The show closes with the Stardust Pixies — they’re amazing! They work with fire and hoops, it’s a spectacular closing of the show,” she said.

Nearly fifteen acts will take the stage during this stellar showcase of local talent. It’s an opportunity for the performers and creatives who contribute so much to the island community to put their talents on display for their neighbors and friends.

“Rather than a competition, we just want to embrace and display all the talent that we have on this beautiful island,” DeRossett said.

Tybee’s Got Talent benefits the Tybee Arts Association, which has provided artistic outlets for the community since 1996. Attending this event will help TAA continue to accomplish its important mission of sustaining artistic interest throughout Chatham County.

Four men perform on stage with guitars and a banjo; an American flag hangs in the background, and musical equipment is visible behind them.

“You’re supporting the beautiful talent that’s on this island and supporting the arts association, which embraces all talent — dance, theater, music and art — so this is a little bit of everything,” she said. “Come and support the artists on this island and the Tybee Arts Association that’s been around for a long time and hopefully for a long time to come.”

Tickets for Tybee’s Got Talent are available online. The show sells out each year, so interested parties are encouraged to secure their tickets as soon as possible.
