Thanksgiving is days away, which means the holiday season is almost here. A time for merriment and good cheer, Christmastime in the Coastal Empire is defined by fun events, camaraderie and, if we’re lucky, mild winter weather. It’s the perfect recipe for enjoying the wonder of this time of the year. If you’re a looking for a good way to get into the Christmas spirit, you’re in luck. Here on Tybee, there’s a brand-new holiday event to look forward to and it’s happening this weekend. For the first time, Tybee Island Main Street is presenting their Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 26 from 12 to 8 p.m. The market will take place on Tybrisa Street, featuring all sorts of fun festivities.

Put forth by the Main Street Board and Promotion Committee, the Holiday Market will “expand on the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and provide a family friendly event for the public,” said Cassidi Kendrick, the Main Street Development Authority Director. The board and committee also hope to bring potential business to the island during a traditionally slow period.
The Holiday Market has a lot to offer to attendees, and it’s expected to be a great time for the whole family.
“The market will feature live music, a vendor market with local merchants and artists, kids’ activities, Polar Express train rides, a Corn Hole Tournament and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony to end the night, which will feature snow machines and holiday lights,” Kendrick explained.

There’s an exciting lineup of live performers including Monty Parks & his band and the Spec Hostin Band. During the Tree Lighting Ceremony, attendees can look forward to performances from Cody Gay, Mary Dahlin, TIMA Rock Band, Tybee Arts Association Ballet Performance and The Studio Savannah Dance.
The market will be filled with various vendors selling items like arts and crafts, handmade goods, home and holiday décor and more. Kendrick encourages people to come out because the market is all about celebrating and supporting the local Tybee community during the most wonderful time of the year.
“This event was put together by a team of volunteers known as Tybee Island Main Street. We want people to come out and enjoy the music and free kids’ activities, shop with local businesses and vendors and really kick off the holiday season on Tybee,” she said.

The Holiday Market will culminate with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, which has been happening as long as Kendrick can remember. There will be caroling, dancing and holiday treats, making this a festive event that you won’t want to miss. So, mark your calendars and prepare to enjoy a fun winter wonderland on Tybee this weekend.

Also, beginning on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, the City of Tybee will be offering complimentary parking on the island throughout the holiday season until New Year’s Day. Use the Park TYB app to take advantage of this offer. For more information about the event, visit tybeeislandmainstreet.org/events/holiday-market/.
