Fourth of July Festivities In and Around Tybee

America’s birthday will soon arrive, with the Fourth of July just around the corner. Independence Day in the Coastal Empire is complete with family-friendly fun, fellowship and, of course, fantastic fireworks. If you’ve yet to plan your holiday, don’t fret. There’s so much to do on Tybee and in neighboring Savannah this holiday weekend. Here’s a quick roundup of all the July 4th festivities taking place through the weekend.

A group of people dressed in patriotic clothing ride decorated bicycles in a parade, with one person in front holding a large American flag.

Tybee Island Bike Parade

Kick off your holiday on July 4th at Tybee’s annual Bike Parade. Deck your bike out with the most patriotic decorations and prepare to ride in celebration of the American spirit! The fun starts at Memorial Park at 10 a.m. with a special pre-parade performance, after which participants will roll out, proceeding down 2nd Ave. to Butler at Tybrisa St. Then, the route travels down Strand Ave. to 18th St. to loop back to the part along Lovell Ave.

A musician wearing sunglasses and a feather boa plays a blue electric guitar on stage under purple lights with "The Purple Madness" written in bold text.

Purple Madness at the Pier

After the parade, and before the yearly fireworks show, head to the Pier and Pavilion for a performance that’ll make you party like it’s 1999. At 7 p.m. Purple Madness, the best Prince cover band in all the land, will take the stage for a free concert sponsored by Bacardi Rum. Be sure to grab a rum bucket to enjoy while you sing along to all your Prince favorites.

After the concert, stick around for the main event: the annual July 4th fireworks display. Once the sun disappears over the horizon around 9:15, the show will begin with dazzling fireworks lighting up the night sky. The show is staged from the pier, but the lights can be seen from any of the island’s eastern beaches. After the show, stick around to take advantage of island-wide dining and drink specials — the perfect way to end the night!

Post-Fireworks Beach Clean-Up

The 4th of July is one of the biggest, most populous days of the year for Tybee, and all the fun can take a toll on the beach. Help to restore our shores to their pristine condition by joining Tybee Clean Beach volunteers for a beach sweep on July 6. Meet up at 6:30 p.m. by the Pier for an hour-long clean-up. All equipment will be provided and parking passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
