Four Fests to Look Forward to in October
Hurricane season definitely put up a fight, but Tybee Island is still carrying right along. Our island dwellers are a hardy bunch, and everyone is looking forward to another fantastic fall on the island, complete with the fun and festivity that is emblematic of life on Tybee. You would think that things would start slowing down after island prime time, which, of course, is the summer, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Tybee Island is an exciting place to be any time of year, and this month has a whole lot in store. October on Tybee is no tricks and all treats. If you like a good time, then mark your calendars for these four fearsome events.
Every October, fleets of bawdy buccaneers sail onto Tybee’s shores, taking the island by storm for the entirety of a weekend. It’s a time for hearties to gather and celebrate all there is to love about seafaring scoundrels. The annual Tybee Island Pirate Fest is the biggest pirate party this side of the sea. Look forward to costume contests, a pirate parade, live sea chanteys and so much more. The 2017 Pirate Fest is happening October 5 – 8. Only lame landlubbers would dare miss it.
- Tybee I.C.E. Run, Hot Rod & Car Show
If classic cars and hot rods really get you going, then October 14 has just the event for you. Last year, Hurricane Matthew stopped the I.C.E Run in its tracks. But this year, the beloved car show is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever. Brought to by the Island Car Enthusiast motorsports club, the Tybee I.C.E. Run is the Lowcountry’s premier car show. Now in its 8th year, the competition is expected to be the best yet, so car buffs, get ready. Boasting live music, great food, local vendors and enviable prizes the ‘ICE Run’ is fun for the whole family. Registration is just $20 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Special Operations Warrior Foundations. So, come out and support our nation’s greatest while indulging in the classic cars you love.

Lovers of modern roots music are in for a special treat. The Tybee Post Theater will present the Seth Walker Trio on October 20 at 8 pm. With a unique sound that blends Americana, jazz, blues and Southern gospel among other genres, Seth Walker has been a major player on the music scene for decades. The North Carolina native has released nine albums to date with songs earning high marks on the Billboard Top charts. If you haven’t heard his music before, his impactful performance quality is reason enough to go out and see him. Get your tickets soon because this show is sure to sell out.
- 2017 Graveface Fright Fest!
The Tybee Post Theater is hosting another special event just in time for Halloween. On Saturday, October 28, the theater will present the Graveface Fright Fest film festival. Graveface has been scaring audiences in Chicago and Savannah since 2007, and this year marks their Tybee Island debut. For the inaugural event, the Post will transform into the haunted house of your nightmares. A curated selection of celebrated horror films will run from 1 to 11 pm. But mortifying movies aren’t the only thing patrons can expect. Local vendors will sell ghastly goods, and a thrilling trailer competition is among the day’s events. Tickets start at just $20, so get yours soon before they’re gone.
