Flavorful Franks: Where to find the best hotdogs on Tybee

July, the summer month defined by sunny days and backyard barbecues, just so happens to be National Hot Dog Month, which is perfectly fitting as far as we’re concerned. With roots in 19th century Germany, the hot dog has become a staple of the American diet. The grilled meaty goodness that is the almighty dog is best enjoyed in a golden, pillowy bun, making for a savory summer bite beloved by all. You could celebrate Hot Dog Month by getting out on your grill, or . . . you could really go all out and grab a delicious dog on Tybee. There are a few local places where you can go and enjoy a tasty hot dog this month. Make some time in July to sink your teeth into the flavorful franks you’ll find at these island establishments.

Sea Wolf Tybee

Sea Wolf is the place on the island for fancy hotdogs that are way more inventive and elevated than the common hotdog at your kid’s pool party. These decadent dogs are truly a cut above, featuring premium ingredients like wagyu beef and the plant-based beyond links. To keep things interesting, Sea Wolf rotates their menu offerings quite regularly, so there’s always several surprising and satisfying hot dogs to choose from. In addition to their classic dog, recent menu highlights include the Glizzy Dog, made with sea wolf chili, cheese and chorizo crema, as well as the Witch Doctor Dog, featuring crawfish maison, crushed Voodoo chips and pickled red onion on a pretzel bun, among others. If you’re a hot dog lover, you won’t be disappointed by the wonderful wieners you’ll discover at Sea Wolf.

North Beach Bar & Grill

A fixture of Tybee’s eclectic dining scene, North Beach Bar & Grill offers an array of exciting plates that tantalize the tongue and satiate the stomach. While they only offer one hot dog on the menu, it’s a dog worth indulging in. Their affordably priced hot dog measures a sizable quarter pound, providing the juicy, savory, meaty decadence every dog deserves. Topped with condiments and served with your choice of side, the NBBG hot dog hits the spot. And gluten-free buns are available for those with sensitivities.

Fannie’s on the Beach

Fannie’s is another island favorite known for their lively atmosphere and delicious dishes. Among them, you’ll find top-notch Hebrew National hot dogs. You can get a single or a double dog for just a few dollars, and top them with cheese, slaw, chili, pico de gallo, a pickle spear — or any glorious combination of them all for a darn-good dog that will rival all others.
