Ossie the Sea Turtle Release!
September 26 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am EDT
It’s time for our resident Marine Debris Ambassador to swim free! Please join TIMSC we release Ossie the Loggerhead Sea Turtle into the wild blue yonder.
Rescued as a tiny hatchling on Ossabaw Island in 2023, Ossie has grown strong and educated visitors at the science center for the last three years. Now weighing almost 36 pounds, this healthy juvenile is ready to thrive in their natural environment.
But gone doesn’t mean forgotten: Ossie will be equipped with a satellite tracker, thanks to activist Liddy Clever and her nonprofit organization, Sea Life with Liddy. Weekly whereabouts will be posted on TIMSC’s social media and website.
The event will take place on the beach in front of the Center Street crossover in the North Beach parking lot.
Early arrival recommended, signs encouraged!
Note: The science center will open late that day at 11am.
