Looking for a place to craft, create and foster your artistic talents? Brought to Tybee by the innovative minds at Irritable Pelican Gallery, Pelican’s Palette is a special classroom space where creativity can flourish. The first of its kind locally, this unique environment is a place where inspiration, education and engagement converge. Pelican’s Palette opened to the public at the beginning of August and they’ve already got a jam-packed calendar filled with compelling classes that’ll get your creative juices flowing. If you want to develop your artistic ability, connect with other art buffs, or simply try something new, mark your calendars for these upcoming classes at Pelican’s Palette.

Open Studio for Artists

Some artists like to work alone, and others like to create in the company of other like-minded individuals. If you’re like the latter, take part in the Open Studio class. Taking place weekly on Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., this class is open to artists of all skill levels. Enjoy a variety of art materials and resources to use at your disposal. Pelican’s Palette instructors will be present to provide guidance and feedback if needed. That said, the class is geared toward independent work so you can explore your artistic style and unleash your creativity in a supportive environment.

Flower Power Workshops

On Aug. 17 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.,Teresa Kassing will lead a workshop in fresh flower stamping. Attendees will learn the timeless art of stamping with real flowers, covering everything from selecting the perfect blooms to creating custom designs. All materials will be provided including fresh cut flowers to choose from. You’ll leave with your own custom hand-stamped tote bag as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to continue exploring this natural technique further. 

Teresa will follow up with another workshop on Aug. 23 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. covering the art of arranging blooms. Learn the fundamentals of flower arranging during this informative and engaging class. You’ll learn about the various types of flora, design elements and techniques. You’ll also be able to create your own arrangement during the class.

BYOB: Paint and Sip

Join Gloria Dalton for a fun-filled evening of art (and alcohol) at her Paint & Sip workshops. Follow along step by step while enjoying your drink of choice as you create your own masterpiece. All supplies are included, so just bring yourself and your favorite beverage. There are two upcoming workshops on the calendar, the first being a “March of the Jellyfish” themed class on Aug. 19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Then, a “The Little Mermaid” themed class will follow on Aug. 26 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Tiny Treasures: Teresa’s Shrink Art for Kids

Teresa Kassing will hold another class geared towards youth on Aug. 24 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. During this hands-on workshop, kids will let imagination lead as they create their own shrinky dinks, or unique miniature treasures. Teresa will guide attendees into the exciting world of shrink art, where color and creativity run free. It’s sure to be a fun time that artists of all ages can enjoy. 

BYOB: Scents & Serenity

Deneige Bonaparte invites you to indulge your senses during her “Scents & Serenity: The Art of Candlemaking and Aromatherapy” class, which is set for Aug. 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. During this enchanting workshop, you’ll learn how to craft sensational candles while exploring the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy. From selecting the finest wax and wicks to formulating fragrances with essential oils, Deneige will guide you as you create your own 4 oz. candle. This workshop is an aromatic journey into the relaxing and rejuvenating world of candle making, perfect for anyone who loves aromatherapy.
