Chamacos Tacos Is On the Move: New Location Coming Soon!

Chamacos Tacos and Surf is a fun little eatery and surf shop boasting flavorful bites and good vibes from their colorful site on 1311 Butler Ave. For the last three years, Chamacos has been bringing authentic Mexican street tacos to Tybee’s culinary scene, and they’ve got some exciting news: Chamacos is moving to a bigger location!

Opening soon in just a few weeks, the new Chamacos is located at 1105 Hwy 80. “At the beginning of the year, we were working on our current lease. . . and we were ready to expand. So we ramped up looking for a new location, and the location became available for us. It was perfect, so we jumped on it immediately,” recounted Chamacos business partners Michael Hall and Matt Kossin.

Patrons can look forward to the same things they love about Chamacos with quite a few new bonuses. “We’ve added beer taps, and . . . we’re working with Southbound to get a Chamacos Mexican Lager as our house beer,” Kossin explained. In addition to the new taps and house beer, guests will be able to enjoy a full bar. “We will be serving all other alcohols, not just tequila, [and] wine as well,” he added.

As far as the building goes, diners will enjoy a more spacious restaurant with an expanded outdoor area, providing the perfect setting for live music and other outdoor activities. There will be a new open-air bar, which will be a focal point for the new space. There’s also some new things coming to the restaurant’s interior as well. “We’re going to have an indoor game room for kids that . . . will have a couple pinball machines, foosball. We got a 65-inch TV and two gaming chairs, so there’ll be videogames for everyone to play,” Hall explained.

From the new location, Chamacos will sell used and new surfboards from renowned local shaper Jim Stephens. His Underground Boardworks line is exclusive to Tybee. “So, if you want to get a local board made for Tybee waves, stop by to check out our selection,” said Hall.

In addition to all of these great attractions, guests can look forward to new food specials. Chamacos has new restaurant equipment that will allow the restaurant to offer new weekly specials. Also, a new rice and bean bowl is on the horizon where guests can choose their protein and veggies and an assortment of toppings.

Though there are a few wonderful new additions to Chamacos, the essentials remain unchanged. “It’s a really fun, family-focused location with the coolest vibe, best margaritas, [and] the best live music,” Hall expressed.

Kossin and Hall are excited about what’s next for Chamacos, and are grateful for the island community’s support: “We want to thank Tybee for all of their support over the last three years. We also want to wish the new business moving in later this year the best of luck.” Follow Chamacos on Facebook @ChamacosTacosAndSurf and Instagram @ChamacosTacosOnTybee to stay up to date about the move and the latest restaurant happenings.
