Independence Day Getaway: Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday on Tybee Island
Fourth of July is always a blast on Tybee, complete with an array of exciting events and a spectacular fireworks display over the Atlantic Ocean. And with this year marking the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding, the island’s Independence Day celebration is expected to be bigger, bolder, and better than ever! Tybee Island, with our sunny shores, coastal accommodations, and unique attractions, is the perfect place to celebrate the 4th — as it is one of our busiest times of the year. Here’s a brief guide to local holiday happenings commemorating this historic occasion:

Fourth of July Bike Parade
The 4th festivities kick off on the holiday with the annual Fourth of July Bike Parade! Taking place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the bike parade will ride out from Memorial Park. Participants are invited to don their most patriotic frocks; decorate their bikes in red, white and blue; and join in a communal celebration of our nation’s rich and complex history. Special for this important anniversary, the parade will honor a Gold Star Family as Grand Marshal — to remember the ultimate sacrifices made by military families to protect our hardwon freedoms. It’s a fun time to celebrate unity in our community while commemorating our country. Be sure to stick around at the park for refreshments after the parade.

Boots, Beaches and Fireworks!
Following the parade, head to our iconic Pier & Pavilion for the biggest Independence Day beach bash in the Coastal Empire. From noon into the night, South Beach will host a birthday party for America filled with music, food and fun for the whole family.
DJ MatKa will get the party started with a sensational set of country faves and line dancing tunes. Then at 3 p.m., Davis Produce is sponsoring a watermelon eating contest to see who can chow down greatest amount of this sweet, refreshing summer delicacy. Later in the evening, Savannah-based emerging country pop artist Bak Bond will take the pier stage from 6 to 9 p.m. Finally as the nighttime sky darkens, fireworks will light up over the ocean in a special expanded display worthy of the 250th anniversary of the U.S.A. The show is staged from the pier, but the fireworks can be viewed from any of Tybee’s eastern beaches.
Throughout the celebration, local vendors will be set up on the pier with jewelry, gifts and patriotic gear, and Riptide Bar will be serving up drink specials fitting for our Democracy. America’s 250th on Tybee is sure to be an unforgettable experience that you won’t want to miss!
